I’m loving on all things neon lately. Since I typically don all black, I’m dreaming of these pops of color to spice up my Spring.

furbish & chic

November 29th, 2011 — 10:11pm

It’s been a busy couple of months. We finally sold our condo and bought a house! I couldn’t be happier. I’m so sick of having to prop, style and vacuum myself out the door everyday just so a random can walk through and take a brochure. Now we’re anxiously waiting to close so we can take our little brown boxes and move ‘em on into the new abode. Despite the stressy moments, we’ve had fun talking about all the grand plans we have for renovating and decorating. I think Mike is ready to slap me silly because I will admit, I’ve been interneting like mad lately looking for fun things for the house. I swear I spent 7 hours on the ‘puter the other day oogling at pretty things.

Speaking of pretty things: there are two shops in particular that win my heart and keep me glued to the interwebs. Chic Shop LA and Furbish Studio.

Chic Shop LA is owned by the lovely Hillary Thomas, an interior designer based in Santa Monica. She effortlessly mixes high end with vintage resulting in an eclectic mix that’s unique and thoughtful. Some of my favorite things from Chic Shop: the stone finials—the perfect accessory to pump up your lamp’s style. the foo dogs—put them on a shelf with books or wherever. They’re sure to stir up conversation. the chinese dragon door knocker: I just purchased this for our new home. I can’t wait to hang it on our door and knock knock away.

Furbish Studio is another must see shop. It’s owned by the colorful and cool designer, Jamie Meares (another pretty blonde). I swear she’s the goddess of pattern and color. I love the way she glams up a room and mixes patterns and colors you’d never think to put together. Her interior design business and shop is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jamie makes a room look so happy, hip and chic. Her ability to mix traditional with modern. old with new, high with low amazes me. If you haven’t checked out her blog: DO IT! Some of my favorite things from Furbish Studio: the snakeskin trays My sister-in-law, Sarah has one of these babies and believe me, it’s great. Put one on your Santa list. They’re affordable and cool. the custom dog beds: as soon as I get my Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier pup, Cookie, she’s getting one of these beds. You can mix and match the fabrics and piping and make it your own. the asian-inspired lighting: these are an easy way to add some global flair to a room and they fit in a traditional or modern space.

Now that I’ve talked your ear off, check out more items I heart from both shops (featured above). Then go buy them as Christmas prezzies. Someone deserves a chic bauble.

juice in my belly

August 23rd, 2011 — 3:10pm

I’ve been reading about this adorable little stand in LA called Pressed Juicery. They have all different kinds of juices catering to everyone’s tongues and buds. Whether you want a juice on the fly, or you want to do a week-long cleanse, they’ve got it. Plus, they ship anywhere in the country so you don’t have to go to LA to get your fix. You like green drinks, they’ve got ‘em. You want more of a sweet pick me up after yoga—try the watermelon mint. You like drinking beet juice, you’re crazy but they’ve got that too. You want to cleanse but don’t wanna make that shit yourself, done.

You’re probably thinking “juice. Okay, so what?” People, people. This isn’t a jamba juice or a container of Tropicana. Pressed Juicery juices are pressed on a hydraulic press, which extracts the good ‘ol produce straight from the pulp, releasing vitamins, minerals, and enzymes into each juice that you can’t do with your home juicer. They also take their ingredients into consideration. These aren’t your typical cranberry, yogurt, strawberry with a shit ton of calorie-filled non fat yogurt drinks. These are well thought out recipes that do your body and mind some good.

So, after reading all that fine material, Mike and I decided to try a cleanse. I’m doing cleanse 2 and Mike, cleanse 1. Once we order our cleanse from Pressed Juicery, they deliver each one of us 6 juices for the day plus two enhanced waters. Each day, we’ll get a fresh batch delivered to our doorstep—no sitting in the fridge getting old. Plus, they come in cute, simple bottles and a sweet little bag. For now, we’ve decided on the 3 day so we don’t go nuts. According to the Pressed plan, we’ll eat only raw foods (no meat, dairy or sugar) for 3 days before and 3 days after the cleanse to prep our bodies. No caffeine or alcohol (or pizza, Mikey) at all throughout the cleanse and prep periods. Before we embark on a cleanse we’ve decided to get our bodies accustomed to replacing a meal with a drink. We’ve ordered a months supply of Pressed juices and will replace either our lunch or breakfast with a juice. I can’t wait to try them, and I love that they’ll be delivered to us fresh daily from LA.

happy cleansing. xo

chunky, edgy goodness

August 1st, 2011 — 8:23am

I’m in desperate need of some new accessories, and I’m obsessing over these chunky, earthy, edgy pieces. I love the mix of tough metal with stone and dainty chains. That cocktail ring from Luv Aj is a must for one of my fingers. Can you imagine getting punched in the face with that hot ring? yowza.

happy monday! xo

nathan, my million dollar love

May 11th, 2011 — 4:59pm

Bravo already has a large enough roster of shows that rot my brain with entertainment, and now they’re adding yet another. First there was Million Dollar Listing (I love you, Josh Flagg), now there’s Million Dollar Decorators. (cue singing in the heavens) Any show title that includes million and decorate I will surely watch. I’m glad it’s not another one of those Design on a Dime type shows. I like seeing shit painted in gold and ladies with small dogs getting lost in their mansions! I’m sure there will be crazy demanding clients, huge budgets and hopefully cute, gay decorators that I can dream of being friends with.

The designer line up looks like this: Martyn Lawrence-Bullard who designs for all of those lucky Hollywood bitches, Jeffrey Alan Marks whose 15 yr Santa Monica based company designs in the US and UK, Kathryn Ireland who has a flare for bohemian style, Mary McDonald who attended Parsons and my favorite of the bunch, Nathan Turner. After looking through the portfolios of the design cast, Nathan clearly wins in my book. You’ll note the shrine I’ve dedicated to my favorites from his portfolio. If I had millions, I would invite Nathan over to strip my home and make it all pretty. I can’t wait for the season to start. The show premieres on May 31st so set your DVRs and get watching.

thrift & couture

April 19th, 2011 — 9:14am

I love how these rooms from Burnham Design effortlessly mix traditional and modern style for a glamorous result with tons of color and texture. The combination of thrift and couture allows the spaces to feel polished without feeling stuffy. I need to find that Hermes butler tray! It’s too perfect and chic not to have on our coffee table/ottoman. I’m on a search as we speak.

Check out more lovely spaces from the portfolio of Betsy Burnham, the principal designer and founder of Burnham Design LA.

a sweet little reminder

April 8th, 2011 — 9:37am

It was a looong night at work last night. It’s been so crazy busy lately that blogging has been on the back burner and it’s not making me very happy. So rather than being a crab ass, I’m gonna work hard and be nice to people just like this sweet little print says. I’m hoping to add this to a cluster of prints on the wall in our home office for inspiration. I love the simplicity of it. Thanks to the latest issue of Matchbook Mag for introducing me to Sugar Paper—the cool letterpress shop out of LA that created this beauty.

Have a Happy Friday and a happy day at work.

off the grid

March 16th, 2011 — 1:02pm

hello, friends! I’m headed to Laguna Beach for a long weekend with Mike. I can’t wait to see the ocean and feel some sunshine on my white skin. It’ll be nice to be away from technology and stress while we relax, eat, drink and explore. This image of Venice from the portfolio of Kwaku Alston gets me in the California spirit. See you next Tuesday.

emily henderson

March 7th, 2011 — 8:48am

Finally, someone on HGTV has style!

I was so excited when I watched Design Star winner, Emily Henderson’s show “Secrets From a Stylist” Saturday night. Most redecorating shows on HGTV just don’t cut it for me but her style is so perfect and reminiscent of Domino. On the most recent episode, she revamped a stylish couple’s bland room into a bohemian-mod paradise. She really knows how to mix textures and styles so the finished room fits the couple’s personality. I can’t wait for this weeks episode. Above are some of my favorites from Emily’s portfolio. Check out her website for more inspiration. And don’t forger to tune in Saturdays at 8 p.m. central on HGTV for great style tips!

papery goodness

January 18th, 2011 — 5:05pm

I have a sick obsession with stationery—thank you cards, blank cards with cute designs, birthday cards, congrats cards, cards cards. I stock up all the time even when I don’t really need them just in case I have an emergency cute card situation. There’s nothing worse than the “oh shit” moment when you realize a friend’s birthday is on the horizon and you’re cardless. I mean, there’s always a store to find a card but these are much more special than the folded, glittery paper at the local Walgreens.

These sweet little cards come from a place on the internets called Dear Hancock. A husband and wife team out of LA design and illustrate them. I can’t decide which one is my favorite. I think the desk series is so fun. This happened to be my favorite desk of the bunch but there are a lot of other good ones. Check ‘em out. I also love the Creative Work Station card. I usually keep my desk pretty tidy so I wish they made a crazy work station in my brain card. Sometimes my head gets more cluttered and chaotic than my desk. Last but not least: the bow card.
